Since 2010, our university has carried out program self-evaluation. As stipulated in Tongji University Undergraduate Education Assurance System (the trial version), we have been implementing college/department undergraduate education self-evaluation every four years. In 2017, the second round of self-evaluation for undergraduate program was launched. Based on the ideas of student-centeredness, outcome-based education and continuous improvement, the program self-evaluation indicator systems of engineering, science, economic management and arts were formulated according to the characteristics of stages, batches and categories. All the relevant majors are required to carry out professional self-evaluation, fill in the Professional Basic Status Data Collection Form, and write self-assessment report. In order to ensure the program self-evaluation quality, the majority of evaluation experts are the peer experts outside the university. They have reviewed the self-assessment report and basic status data in advance, and have a one-day on-site observation. On the basis of listening to professional reports, on-the-spot investigation of laboratory and other teaching facilities, observing classroom lectures, holding symposiums of some professional teachers, students, graduates, and employers, the experts give their evaluation opinions and site feedbacks for all the relevant majors. And the quality assurance office collects all the expert evaluation opinions from all majors and provides feedbacks to the relevant functional departments in the university.
The program self-evaluation in the university aims at the objective evaluation of the majors, while affirming the achievements, focusing on pointing out problems and suggesting improvements. And through program self-evaluation inside the university, we can provide the basis for major adjustment, major construction, and the reform of teaching and learning.
